Aban Marker Kabraji, Head, IUCN, Thailand

Aban Marker Kabraji was born on 12 March, 1953 in Mumbai), India. She is a Pakistani biologist and scientist.
She is a biologist by training and leads the Asia Regional Office of International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN in Bangkok, Thailand, and supervises its seven Country Offices.IUCN is an observer at the UN General Assembly, Headquartered in Switzerland. She has been involved with the conservation of endangered Green Turtle population off the coast of Karachi and Baluchistan.
Kabraji explains that the IUCN, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, was a partner of the United Nations during the design of the Convention on Biological Diversity and thus is not new to the scenario contemporary scenario and the challenges to be overcome in order to determine the future.

 

She emphasizes that Assessment is the base on which to build and incorporate conservation of biological diversity. The reason being there have been primarily the inefficiency and the inability to implement the policies successfully, which translates into a failure of the objectives in the majority of the pursuits. She recognizes assessment as one of the most critical to bring about a change in the system. Also, she talks about the Governmental efforts and roadblocks it faces in policies and their implementation. Kabraji is optimistic about the role of the private sector in conservation, describing it as an important and in many cases a responsible player.
She concludes by saying that capital needs to be utilized properly and diverted into the sector by the countries in order to ensure the completion of these objectives
